Chief Executive

Deirdre Dean

Deirdre Dean, Chief Executive

After completing a BSc Hons Degree, Deirdre spent 10 years in hotel management, mainly in London, before emigrating to Canada where she lived for 8 years.  She joined EBS in 2003 as a Welfare Officer, becoming Administrator in 2005 and Chief Executive in 2009





Office Manager

 Graham Rowsell


Graham Rowsell, Office ManagerGraham is Office Manager and has responsibility for the Society databases.

He also looks after the EBS talking books library.

He had nearly 30 years managing accounts departments in private education before joining the Society about 10 years ago.


Low Vision Support Worker

Janice Whibley



Janice joined the Eastbourne Blind Society in September 2015. She is employed by EBS under contract to East Sussex County Council supporting people who are registered Sight Impaired or Severely Sight Impaired or who have serious concerns about failing sight.

Janice was previously employed by the Department for Work & Pensions for 16 years and became a Visiting Officer helping & advising vulnerable people about benefits.

Resource Officer

Mark Simmons


Mark SimmonsMark joined EBS in July 2017. He has background in working within the charity sector and will be dividing his week between the responsibility of the Resource Officer and other work witin the community.

Senior Welfare Officer

Lucy McCance


Lucy McCance, Senior Welfare OfficerLucy joined EBS in 2001 having moved from London, where she was a Cordon Bleu cook for directors’ lunches in the City. She joined as a Welfare Officer in a small team of three.   Over the years she has been on a number of courses and workshops, learning how to best help our visually impaired members. She is now the Senior Welfare Officer and is also responsible for delivering our Modular Training Courses.

Jo Woodbridge


Jo Woodbridge, Welfare and Benefits OfficerJo joined Eastbourne Blind Society in March 2014 as a Welfare Officer. She had previously worked for the Department for Work and Pensions for over 35 years and has extensive knowledge of the social security system for both contributory and means tested benefits.

Elizabeth Hayward


Elizabeth Hayward, Welfare OfficerElizabeth is a Welfare Officer with EBS which she joined in 2011.  She supports our members in the Willingdon, Hampden Park district of Eastbourne.   Prior to being part of the team at EBS she worked in administration at EDGH as well as being a busy mum for several years.

Sandra Brace


Sandra Brace, Welfare OfficerSandra joined EBS in September 2012, as a Welfare Officer having previously worked in the Community, serving Children & Families, for 25 years.    She has a Teaching Degree from Greenwich University, a Counselling Certificate and an Advanced Certificate in Advice and Guidance, from Canterbury Christchurch University.

Angelica joined the team in 2015 having been caretaker at Stafford School for many years.
